With the growth of skin cancer clinics in the Townsville region and Australia, it is important to know what makes Hermit Park Clinic and Skin Cancer Care special.

When it comes to skin, we are well placed.  Dr Greg Canning, our principal skin cancer doctor has completed the Master of Medicine in Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicine and was recently awarded Fellowship of the Skin Cancer College of Australian and New Zealand.  We have invested in new procedure facilities and equipment.

Our Molemax II digital surveillance suite helps us monitor your skin and we now offer Photodynamnic Therapy for the non-surgical management of selected skin cancers.  Digital surveillance and the use of dermoscopy allows us to avoid unnecessary biopsies and procedures in many cases.

Feel confident to book a skin check today safe in the knowledge that we will recommend only those procedures that are needed for your skin's health and safety.

If you would like a skin check but would prefer to return to your regular GP for follow-up, we'll provide you with a complete report and digital photographs of any suspicious skin lesions.  The choice is yours at Skin Cancer Care.

Prevention

We offer a full head-to-toe skin examination.  The doctor will initially check each area of your skin under magnification and take a more detailed look at some spots with a skin microscope or dermatoscope.

MoleMax II

Digital imaging with MoleMax II uses a high powered digital dermatoscope to take a detailed (30 or 40 times magnified) photograph.  This can be used for diagnosis of melanoma and follow-up of suspicious moles for significant change.

Body Mapping

Body mapping involves taking high resolution images of all body areas as a base-line.  This is then repeated at intervals appropriate to your skin to look for new moles, spots or changes.

* Dermsocopy uses an instrument called a dermatoscope to examine skin lesions (spots or lumps on the skin) with bright lighting and magnification. A contact fluid or polarizing lenses reduce scatter of light allowing structures below the surface of the skin to be viewed in detail and this greatly increases the accuracy of diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions. Consequently fewer benign moles are removed for pathological diagnosis.

** Suspicious moles that don’t meet the criteria for removal can be monitored over time using the MoleMax II system which allows for storage and comparison of sequential images, to assist in identifying new lesions and change in existing lesions.
