Dr Robert Gower
MBBS (Adel), Certif Man Med (RACGP), FACPM
Dr Bob Gower graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1960. He has worked part time at Hermit Park Clinic for the last 11 years.
His initial post graduate year was spent at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide after which he served in the RAAF in Australia and South East Asia. After returning to Adelaide, he worked in General Practice for the next 30 years. Twenty of these years were spent as a solo medical practitioner and GP anaesthetist.
More than 20 years ago, he developed an interest in spinal medicine and spinal manipulation after doing some post graduate training in Paris, and this continues to be one of his keen interests.
He has obtained a Certificate in Manual Medicine from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and was a Foundation Fellow of the Australian College of Physical Medicine.
In 1997, he ceased full time practice in Adelaide to settle in North Queensland where two of his four daughters live. For some years he did relieving rural locums from Mossman to Emerald. For the last 4 years, except for a longstanding arrangement with a clinic in Ingham, he has settled for permanent part time work at Hermit Park Clinic.
He is married with 5 children. Two of his daughters are practicing doctors, one a clinical Tutor at JCU and the other a Consultant Radiologist in Adelaide.
He still enjoys active contact with patients and says he can't see himself retiring completely. He believes there is a limit to the number of games of golf one can play in a week, and besides which, he say his golf is not that good anyway.
