Dr Peter Carson

MBBS (Hons), FRACGP

Peter.jpgPeter Carson, an honours graduate from the University Of Queensland in the class of 1986 has worked at Hermit Park Clinic for seven years. For approximately 6 years before that he had mixed clinical and managerial positions as Director of Clinical Services at Brisbane's Northwest Private Hospital "graduating" to CEO of the then privately owned Park Haven Private Hospital in 1996, from which position he resigned in 2000 after the hospital's sale to The Wesley Group.

Peter then abandoned managerial work apart from the very occasional consulting project, and came to Hermit Park Clinic, initially feeling a bit rusty and eventually passing his Fellowship exam in 2007, awarding to him the post-nomial FRACGP (Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners).

Before entering management roles, Peter had a varied career including six months as Country Reliever, which involved providing relief for rural doctors in the Central Queensland Highlands. He then embarked on four years of Paediatric work at The Royal Childrens Hopital in Brisbane, which experience underpins his current emphasis and interest in Paediatrics. During that time he spent 6 months working as Paediatric Registrar at Mt Isa base, which included Paediatric RFDS clinic and emergency work; he describes this as the busiest, most challenging, rewarding and occasionally terrifying six months of his clinical life.

With experience in rural medicine, paediatrics, obststetrics and an interest in procedures, Peter now concentrates on skin procedures and family medicine including shared-care Obstetrics, Family Planning (including IUD insertion, Implanon insertion and Vasectomy) and paediatrics.  He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian Collage of General Practitioners in 2007, and is certified for the family planning procedures he undertakes.

Peter is an avid cyclist who is entering the Townsville to Cairns ride for Children's Cancer fund-raising (CCIA) this year and can often be seen slogging his way up Castle Hill in the morning.  A musician by original trade, Peter is a drummer who worked in the industry for more than 10 years, and a clarinetist of notable mediocrity.  He is married with one child.
