Dr Jocelyn Melville

MBBS (Hons)

Jocelyn Melville joined Hermit Park Clinic in 2001.  2008 is her 20th year practicing as a GP in Townsville.

Jocelyn is a Monash University honours graduate of the 70's era.  The next 4 years were spent as a Resident and Registrar at the Alfred Hospital.  Designs on a cardiology career were a high priority following the completion of the FRACP exams, but the prospects of further long hours and training in a hospital setting had to be weighed up against the attractiveness of starting a family.  The latter choice was selected without too much sleep deprivation.

After 2 healthy boys were born, the temptation to be a doctor again was strong.  Slotting into General Practice progressed from part time to full time in the years between 1982 and 1987, in the suburbs of North Balwyn and Bulleen.

The move to Townsville at the end of 1987 was made in sad circumstances (death of spouse), but the new beginning has never been a source of regret.  Until 2001, Jocelyn worked at Aitkenvale, mainly full time, until that practice closed.

At Hermit Park Clinic, Jocelyn considers herself a grass roots General Practitioner, helping to make up the field, but perhaps also, as one of the born stayers in the Hermit Park "Ensemble".
