Dr Greg Canning

Dr Greg Canning moved from Brisbane to begin his medical career at the Townsville General Hospital in 1986, working as an intern, and subsequently as a Junior House Officer and Medical Registrar.  He completed the Diploma of Obstetrics and gained pediatric and general practice experience in Tasmania before entering general practice in Townsville in late 1989.

In 1991 he became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.  Greg has been a practice principle at Hermit Park Clinic since 1992 and has been involved in training medical students and general practice registrars since that time.

In 2005 Greg commenced part time dedicated skin cancer practice, and has since completed a Master of Medicine in the field of Primary Skin Cancer Medicine at the University of Queensland in 2007.  In July 2008, he was awarded the International Dermoscopy Diploma (with Distinction) from the Medical University of Graz, Austria and in August 2008 he was awarded Fellowship of the Skin Cancer College of Australia Australia and New Zealand.

Greg is currently a full time dedicated skin cancer practitioner, a board member of the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand and coordinates and tutors the colleges Australian Diploma of Dermoscopy, a course designed to upskill primary care practioners in the use of dermoscopy for the early diagnosis of melanoma and skin cancer.

Non medical interests include scale model construction, martial arts, motor cycles, and involvement in the growing men's rights movement.   Greg is married and wife, Veronika is a Psychologist.
